Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship
BIKE-HEI Mentorship Programme

The Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship BIKE-HEI Mentorship Programme aims to translate knowledge into practice, fostering start-up initiatives, research commercialisation, and improving key skills for sustainable enterprise development.

The purpose of the programme is to transfer entrepreneurial knowledge from experienced professionals to students, academic, and non-academic University staff. Mentors include experienced entrepreneurs, industry experts, and senior academic staff with experience in technology transfer and entrepreneurship. The vision of the mentorship is to empower participants to transform their sustainable innovation ideas into validated, resilient, and investment-ready venture concepts.

The First Edition

The first edition of the mentoring programme empowers aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs by equipping them with essential skills, knowledge, and personalised guidance. Through interactive sessions, mentees gain insights into funding opportunities, strategic financial planning, and real-world business development. The programme fosters confidence, collaboration, and key soft skills such as communication, pitching, and problem-solving.

The second edition

The second edition of the mentoring programme empowers aspiring entrepreneurs by building their skills, confidence, and innovative thinking through guided online sessions. Participants gain practical knowledge on funding opportunities, business development, and real-world entrepreneurial pathways. The experience promotes collaboration, peer learning, and personalised mentorship tailored to individual goals.

The BIKE-HEI mentorship programme aims to transfer entrepreneurial knowledge, innovation practices, and business know-how from experienced professionals to the target groups with the following main aims:

to strengthen entrepreneurial and innovation skills and prepare for start-ups.

to support the valorisation of research results and foster entrepreneurial teaching methods.

to build institutional capacity in innovation management and collaboration with external partners.

Incubation Programme

The BIKE-HEI Incubation Programme offers early-stage startups and university spin-offs a fast-track, two-month pathway to strengthen their business strategy, validate their innovation, and accelerate growth.

Delivered by the four BIKE-HEI partner universities, the programme combines personalised guidance with the expertise of mentors drawn from dynamic regional innovation ecosystems.

Startups begin with an in-depth diagnostic to identify their most urgent development needs. They then co-design a tailored roadmap and receive targeted one-to-one mentoring sessions focused on business model refinement, market readiness, and access to funding and partnerships. Each edition concludes with a progress assessment and clear recommendations to guide the next stages of growth.

Female Entrepreneurship Bootcamp

Green & Digital

The BIKE-HEI Female Entrepreneurship Programme is a multi-hub training initiative designed to empower women students, researchers, and aspiring entrepreneurs across Europe to transform their ideas into impactful, sustainable, and technologically enabled business projects. Embedded in the European BIKE-HEI project, this initiative strengthens Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as drivers of innovation, specifically targeting the green and digital transition.  

While each university—University of Alicante (UA, Mariupol State University (MSU), University of Primorska (UP), and Saarland University (USaar)—offers a specialized focus, they share a common mission of building a supportive community for women to develop future-proof business models.

Core Programme Pillars

The bootcamp generally follows a 1.5 to 2-day intensive format characterized by:

Technological Empowerment

Practical workshops on harnessing AI and Deep Tech (such as Extended Reality) to accelerate startup validation, prototyping, and marketing.

Sustainability & Green Innovation

Integration of environmental and social responsibility into core business models, aligning with European priorities like the Green Deal.

Entrepreneurial Methodologies

Hands-on application of proven frameworks, including Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and the Business Model Canvas.

Track

The BIKE-HEI Acceleration Programme is an advanced support programme designed for startups and university spin-offs that have already validated their business idea and developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). It helps entrepreneurial teams move beyond validation towards market entry, investment readiness, and sustainable growth.

Delivered online as a joint initiative by four European Higher Education Institutions alongside key international business partners, the programme combines expert-led technical sessions with personalised mentoring from experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and innovation specialists across the partner ecosystems.

Participants strengthen their business model, refine their go-to-market strategy, improve financial planning, prepare investment materials, and develop strategies for intellectual property protection and international scaling.

The programme concludes with an online Demo Day, where startups present their ventures to investors, experts, and innovation ecosystem stakeholders.
